I'm not sure what it is about wheels, whether it be their unusually high geometry, or something in their code, but when I add them to my creations, I see a noticeable frame-rate drop. This is easier to tell on creations that already require you to lower the game speed a slight bit, because it's easier to notice changes at lower framerate. (You wouldn't be able tell if it went from 120 FPS to 90 FPS, but you can sure as hell tell when it goes from 30 to 15)
For example. I wanted to add them as foot-pads to a walking creation of mine (because they have more friction, and would keep it from slipping), but noticed after doing so I'd have to reduce the game speed by another 20% just to get the same frame-rate. I then took them all off and add just a SINGLE wheel to machine and pressed play, with similar results.
I'm just putting it out there right now that if you want better frame-rates with your really-large creations, don't have ANY wheels on it.
Will have to do testing to see if this happens with other parts as well.

This is an interesting discovery, I'll look into this more closely myself, thankyou for posting about it.

Single wheel does make the difference. I got 45 fps on my monstrosity without wheels. Adding a single wheel sideways and not even in contact with the ground dropped that instantly to 3 fps.

Well I'm glad someone already posted this. Fixing that wheel problem would let me play so many more creations on normal speed, and I can kill peasants without being in the matrix.

I have exactly the problem with my big machine, add one wheel/powered wheel/circular saw, and you fall at like 3 FPS. Under about 210 blocks it gets better. What's weird is that the cogs don't create the problem... But that's why we are here playing the beta version
