You can't rotate blocks at an angle (yet). The machine is just bending due to the weight.

They're not mounted at an angle Yes they are. Look at the video OP posted, the machine has 8 arms with 45 degrees between them. I'm not sure how to do this in vanilla though. Really easy if you consider modding:

There is currently a bug that allows this to happen however I think it is soon to be patched out.

Turn it into a feature instead. That bug would seriously help for building more complex stuff.

If it was turned into a feature, then it would rely on certain code within the game, if the code is changed, or altered down the path it could break the 'feature'. A bug is for it to be unintended which this is. What is better, although takes more time, is to remove the bug and properly implement angled placement which doesn't rely on exploitation of code.

For what it's worth, using the bug is actually rather buggy. If you try to use fractions of a degree (like 22.5), it will misalign in weird ways (like by 5 degrees), but only if you don't connect it to your core block ... for no apparent reason beyond the core block having fixed local rotation.
So .... definitely fix -> feature.

Seriously though, triangles are the best shape in the world, ever. Ask any engineer. 110% want to be able to rotate blocks to make triangles.
