I'm not quite sure whats going on here, are you able to supply the save for this machine? that would be quite helpful

I think this is what you are refering to: youtu.be/OXV-JYPZDwIThe wood poles reset their length when reloading them even though you can create shorter poles by blocking half of them during building.

Ahhh Okay, I see what you mean now... thats odd, I feel as though it shouldn't be shortening them in the first place...
Because them 'reseting' makes sense. They have a block id, which is saved, and then reloaded when it's opened form the save. It's not as if the block gets a new got when it's forcefully shortened.

Idd. Seems very logical that complete poles spawn. The half-poles are weirder xD

Well the rotor system I've been experimenting with is 3 wide and that makes my craft an odd number of blocks wide. and since this feature worked with normal blocks i assumed it was a feature for poles as well. we're basically stuck with a less versatile system with poles then we are with blocks even though the same logic for resizing is used with both. and for odd wide flying craft i think it makes a difference. heres the craft file. the welding i thought was a problem only had to do with the poles above it which i fixed so ignore the yellow in the op. Well the reason the normal blocks work that way is because there is an actual 1 block, so the 2 block id is replaced with a 1 block id, and thus is saved that way. However, as I stated before, the wooden pole id isn't replaced with a shorted id, thus the wooden pole is saved as a normal wooden pole, and thus is respawns that way when loaded

I have an issue with a machine I made. I use 2 block long wooden blocks to build a base for my catapult. About haf way through I decided to save my machine to be safe and after I saved all the 2 long wooden blocks became 1 block long instead of 2 and there fore pretty much destroyed the last two hours of work (It was pretty big so it would have taken a long time to fix all the blocks) I do not have the save as I stupidly deleted it.

I built a lot with double-blocks as well in the beginning and had a lot of save-fails. They were not identical to what you are describing, but it seems that this game does not handle big-blocks overlapping well.
I was just missing some blocks after loading... But now that I never use doubles anymore it's all good.
