Are you using the Humble version or Steam?

If your using steam you just right click on the game and hit manage downloads. then move the game to the top of your downloads list.

I am using the Humble version on a mac and I'm not sure how to update it please help me!

You can update the Humble version by simply downloading the new version by hand. If you linked your purchase with an account at Humble, you can just login on their website and download the new version under "My Library". If you haven't, you will need the link that was originally sent to you via e-mail when you purchased the game. There you can download the new version. You may also want to link your purchase with an account now in that case, as it will make updating in the future easier and more convenient.
In either case, after downloading you just extract the archive and install the game the same way you did the first time. If you want to keep you saved machines and your level progression, just copy the "Saved Machines" folder and the "CompletedLevels.txt" file from the old version into the new version.

If I remember correctly, you need to follow the link in the original email you got. If you are logged in, there should be a button named something like "Claim Purchase" which you can use.
