I've tried at a couple more heights, when I lifted everything only 2 2/3 blocks of the ground it still happened, but less often. At height demonstrated in the video it happened 7 out of 8 times I tried.

It's falling through the ground.
I think it's because broken blocks don't have hitboxes.

Ok that's possible.
But the block shouldn't be broken... there's so little force... And the force is in the only direction wood can handle it well.

So I tried testing this out, same wood block structure, with 6.0 worth of ballasts, initially I was not able to replicate this, then I lowered it to 2 2/3 above the ground, and got it first shot, I then raised it again, and go the same result. So I think the minimum hight for this to occur is 2 2/3 off the ground. Either way, I feel like it is the amount of weight on it that is causing it to break, and with such a small amount, this shouldn't be occurring. zodium is correct in saying that broken blocks do not have hit boxes
