Instead of simply exploding at the slightest touch, could we see sheep (or perhaps another animal) that had better resistance?
Inkeeping with medieval siege tradition, launching sheep and other cattle with catapults was very common.
This would either mean we'd need a placeable sheep-block or we'd need them to be more shock-proof so that we can scoop them up in some way (perhaps with the plough?). And let's be frank, the community needs its ownback wrought upon those treacherous wool-hoarders.
