Instead of everyone creating a new post for a single new part idea they'd come up with, just post it here!
My own ideas:
A version of the contractable spring that maintains it's length. Useful for some of my suspension based mechanisms, on a highly related note, but also very crucial: A ROPE!
rope feels like such a key item that it seems silly that it'd have been forgotten.
Sliding parts. or a function to add grooves, or slots to blocks. in my opinion this is key to making a true balista. Trust me, i know you can make unnattached blocks, but this opens up a lot of extension based possibilities.
A beefier cannon- we grew up hearing stories about how gunpowder changed the face of warfare, how cannons rendered castle walls obsolete.
Well our pea shooters clearly aren't living up to their reputation, though we can't deny how fun they are to use. I understand how adding a larger cannon might make a lot of the game way too easy, but i can imagine having boat loads of fun using it. maybe add in a few limitations to it.
Troop carrier- we all know this game is about building and using your own war engine, but the war engines are only a small part of a true siege. They are indeed extremely vital, but why not add in your own archers or foot soldiers? instead of just destroying a castle, a mission could require you to take over a castle using your troops, or leading seperate troops on the level to victory. The possibilities are endless. Also, this makes building a siege tower actually important in game. And no seige engine game would be complete without using a siege tower.
While we're at it, why not give the player first or third person control over one or all of thier troops(switch between troops), and let us raise our own heroes with something like an rpg levelling system? This could be expanded on later as it's not a part, per se.
A "Springy" plank type item. kind of necessary to build a true ballista, or for the more sadistic of us, a whiplash type weapon. Attach a blade to the end of it and you'll have yourself a pretty decent lawn mower. Or sheep mower, if you prefer.
Rope and pully mechanisms. -I'm sure i would have found a use for this if I'd had it. put it here just because i can imagine it being fun to build a pirate ship. Oh right, trebuchets.
Extremely sturdy parts, I tried making a combustion driven war engine, intending to use the explosion to launch various projectiles via a drive shaft. Pretty much nothing survives explosions in this game.
