Balloons are inconsistent. But not obviously more so then other parts I think. Sometimes they pop, sometimes they don't, sometimes they pop 5 times in a row, you start recording with fraps and they only pop once in 20 tries. This is just probably related to all mechanical parts that randomly crap out because of.. who knows, maybe it's that timestep not being fixed problem you see in every game that's in early stages of development. But I was just writing a bug report when they stopped popping, but then I saw something else that was interesting. I had my little lightweight chinook, removed the rotors and stuff, made it smaller and added a buttload of balloons. Eventually it took off on itself without having to use Flyingblocks. So when it got a little high I made some flyingblocks pull it down. It went back up again. Like you would expect. However eventually I made it touch down after which it did not take off again. It's now stuck to the ground. I added the file in which this happens. MÃght be related to the sticky-braces bug. Added the .bsg Attachments:Airshipb.bsg (19.39 KB)

I just had something very similar to this happen. I have a little airship that carries four bombs, and for the level where you pick up the ore, I dropped the bombs in order to use the grabbers to pick up the ore. The instant the grabber hit the ore, the entire airship fell out of the sky, and I couldn't get it to take off again, even after dropping the ore.

Did you have a Brace that hit the ground?
I suspect that it's the brace that's keeping it to the ground. But I'm not sure.

Did you have a Brace that hit the ground? I suspect that it's the brace that's keeping it to the ground. But I'm not sure. Nope. In fact, nothing actually hit the floor. The only thing that touched anything else was the grabber hitting the ore. I have the exact same thing happen when I start a level. If I don't immediately take off during the bounce from the balloons hitting the ends of their lines, I can't take off at all. At that point, the only part touching the ground is the downward screw. The funny thing is, if I manage to bounce it back into the air while skidding around on the ground, I can usually take off again.

What's the balloon buoyancy set at? If I am right in my thinking, one ball of iron ore weighs more than the bombs, so that would explain the lack of flight after picking it up.

I would assume the same, except that the airship wasn't being weighted down by the iron. The entire thing fell out of the air, it wasn't just straining to lift the iron.
