Hi!
This thread is for explaining basic construction techniques, and as a complement to the Tips and Controls guide and the Blocks guide. Each entry will focus on a function or self-contained mechanism, and will feature an image and a BSG file, as well as a description of why it works. (So, you know, those are the marks to hit if you want to suggest a module!). The goal is to create a guide that will let a new player zoom in on the design that interests them, use the BSGs as a reference object, and be good Besiege players by the time they can build them all.
This guide is therefore not supposed to cover every idiosyncratic design or variation, but to illustrate basic Besiege design. I will give credit for included designs where appropriate, and will use the following selection criteria in order of appearance:
Control: More maneuverability and less buttons are better than the opposite (many keyboards only allow 2 simultaneous key presses).
Reliability: The unit should depend on as little pilot training as possible (idiot-proofing).
Transparency: The mechanism should be as visible as possible on loading the machine (not covered in three layers of armor).[/ul]
Each entry will be its own reply, because I'm sure the forums has some limit to attachments or other limitation that won't play nice when I get 50 entries in. Damn you, Murphy! If I forgot any types, just post a reply.
