Didn't even have to go looking, it was from a streamer I already follow! It was really hard not to backseat game and tell her how everything works, lol. She was having fun figuring it out.
From watching her play I would suggest a tutorial ON THE FIRST LEVEL of everything from "X" being the hotkey for delete and "spacebar" being the hotkey for start/stop the game, that there is a center of gravity tooltip that can be used, that you can change certain items rotation with "F", and it needs to be readily apparent that the "wrench" allows players to alter key inputs and part settings. It also seems that (at least for people distracted by streaming) that the white "do this objective" text CAN be overlooked.
Was fun to watch, even though I've already got hours invested! Hope this game gets more attention!

Thanks for your feedback on this. Its been a great subject of debate, the amount of tutorial and where the tutorial is placed. We don't want to spam the player with insane amounts of information, we also don't want to ruin the game, discovery is a great part of the game. That being said, we dont want people to get frustrated with the game and stop playing.

Yea, it was just that she was doing everything the hard way, like click the "remove" tool to delete blocks, and starting/stopping the game by moving her mouse all the way up to the corner to click the button every time, rather than just pressing spacebar. She also didnt realize for a very long time that you could even edit key-inputs on blocks like wheels. And watching her struggle with a flyer that tipped over due to the center of mass being off was frustrating use both, lol. Took a lot of trial and error, but it would have been much easier if she just knew that there was a tool for seeing where the center of mass is.
I don't think there's anything wrong with a 3 minute tutorial. No one will get mad, and in a very short period of time knowing all these shortcuts will have saved them more time (and frustration) than they can imagine.

Hey! I've also seen Lirik (famous twitch streamer) play it. It was a great time! He played some epic music while playing the game in slow motion, it was pretty insane From what I could see (and I had the same problem), the "steering hinge" isn't very useful for steering actually. In the beginning, everyone thinks you have to use the hinges before discovering that the steering 'block' is far more effective. Maybe change the name of the steering hinge to something like " motorized hinge "?

I think the steering hinge keeping its name would be fine, as long as the hinge comes with a limited arc (90 degrees max). Then people wouldn't OVERturn them and break their own machines. Otherwise yea, a name change would help.

Well i think that interface is such intuitive that there is no need for tutorial at all. I mean everything has a tooltip and UI is pretty flat so it doesnt hurt to hover mouse over each button to see what it does.

Yeah I prefer not having one, there's a sense of accomplishment at figuring it out yourself, and I don't think it's hard enough to get frustrating for most people. I mean look at the steam reviews, 98 % positive. Just keep adding stuff and fixing bugs and you've got a winner.

I see you're point. But I think you're wrong about the "sense of accomplishment" thing.
It's actually kind of annoying when you're 4 hours in and you FINALLY (and totally by accident) discover that SPACEBAR is the hot-key for starting/stopping the simulation. (I had just assigned a part to be controlled by spacebar, and was trying to use it)
I didn't feel any sense of accomplishment from finding out in this way. I felt annoyance that I HAD to find it out myself...4 hours in.
And from watching other people play this game for THEIR first time. It quickly becomes clear that taking all of 2-minutes to explain these things when a player first starts playing, would save EACH player hours of time (and frustration) down the line.

About this spacebar example - better tooltips should do the trick. And about tutorial in general i think the best way to do such would be in form of short video.
And frankly the interface isn't biggest problem - rather figuring out how some of the elements work is tricky (still have no idea what swivel joint do).
