Ok so this thread has been created to consolidate information on Black screen issues with Besiege. We need to keep this Thread organised and containing useful information so please stick to the guidelines listed here. If I ask a question or offer a new solution please all try it. If someone has tried it and posted that it doesn't work, you should still try it but there is no need to say that it didn't work. If you are experiencing another type of bug or crash this is not the place to post! Before posting please try the following fixes:- Try setting your resolution manually in the config.txt file (This is located in the Besiege_Data Folder)If you do not have a config.txt file continue with other steps and in your post say you don't have one
- Try pressing alt+enter when facing the black screen
- Update All you Drivers
- Run the game in Admin mode
- If you are running SLI or Crossfire, try disabling it
- Try restarting your computer
- Try running the game in windowed mode by changing the config.txt
- Try re-installing or verifying the game files
- If you are running any utility programs (MSIAfterburner, Riva Tuner, etc), try turning them off
- If you are using any anti-virus software, grant Besiege permissions or temporarily disable your anti-virus
- Try Disabling DSR besiege.freeforums.net/post/5442
If none of these fixes worked then please post the following:System Specs: Operating System CPU Ram Graphics Card Platform (Steam or Humble) Attach your Output_log.txt to your post (Please use attachment function and don't just copy and paste the text in) Do you get an error message? What is it? ################################################################################################################### We are really sorry that your having issues but hopefully with everyone's help and clear posts of information we can get this fixed!
Thank you for your time!

I've spent a bit of time trying to browse other forums looking for issues that might relate to the black screen issues found here. I focused primarily on Nvidia issues, as that seems to be where the issue is commonly coming from. I have come across two that stand out the most. 1. Link Basically, it has to do with a secondary screen, and nvidia messing around with screen resolutions. Which sound reminiscent to some of the issues you guys were having with the screen resolution jumping, trying to find one that works. Copy paste, of the initial post of the thread. The disable secondary screen option is in the Nvidia Control panel, Manage 3D settings/Multi-Display. This thread isn't very long, but it sounds reminiscent of issues being found here. 2. Link It's only a single post thread, however it has to do with Nvidia's Stereoscopic 3d driver. It reminded me of this thread, where a besieger was trying to use a 3rd party stereoscopic program, and the game didn't work with that program running. Here's a quick step by step guide on turning off the 3d Driver: start button / all programs / nvidia corporation / 3d vision / disable 3d vision You can do it from the nvidia control panel by going down to Stereocsopic 3d - set up stereoscopic 3d then unchecking the 'enable stereoscopic 3d' box Alternatively, you might have installed 3d Vision on accident. And what about found about being able to turn it off/removing it. If anyone is having this black screen issue, if they are able to test out these methods to see if that solves the issue, that would be greatly appreciated.

Guys, I was having the same problem. I've managed to find a solution. Here are my specs:
AMD FX 8150 16 GB RAM AMD HD 7970 OC
1. I've found Besiege.exe (Steamapps/common/Besiege), right clicked it, and selected ( in compatibility tab) to run the program as an admin.
2. I've opened Config.txt (Steamapps/common/Besiege/Besiege_Data), and edited the resolution to 800 x 600, AND Windowed Mode TRUE.
3. Change your resolution to 800 x 600
4. Try to open the game. Then, in the game, you can configurate for your best options, as well as unselect windowed mode.
5. Exit the game, and change the resolution to your preferences.
Hope it works for you, here it is ok now!

I'm sorry but this might be quite a slow process. There are just so many different variables that could be contributing to these issues. For example I had a support response from someone who was experiencing an immediate crash upon start up, it turns out that he had downloaded some fonts to use in photoshop and one of those was causing Unity to crash for some reason. I will be going through this issue again tomorrow evening with one of the Devs, we had a new idea about diagnosing this. EDIT: As soon as I have new information I will update this thread.

For me, the game works great on Windows, but I have this black screen issue on Lignux (the screen is black but I can hear the music).
My system specs:
Debian GNU/Linux AMD Phenom II X4 965 8 GB Ram ATI HD 5500 Humble
I also use the Radeon free driver. I've tried the Fglrx, but I don't even have direct rendering with it. Also, I don't have a config.txt file, although I've copied one, it didn't work.
I've tried all the solutions said on this thread and a few more: Changing my resolution and opening the game (I've tried it with all resolutions) and opening the game on a window created with Xephyr, which gave me also a black screen with music.
So this night I kept the game opened for a long time and, suddenly, it drew one frame. I waited for about two minutes, and it drew a new one. So being quite patient I was able to mess with the options (by the way, when I click on something, it doesn't work immediately, I have to keep clicking, waiting for it to read my input), and I tried to set it on windowed mode and later change the resolution. It didn't change anything, it keeps working so slow.
I don't know if it's the problem everyone is having or just me, but anyway I hope my experience can help someway.

Thank you for your time! The thing that fixed it for me was changing my desktop resolution to something else then changing it back, unplugging my second monitor then I was able to get past the black screen.

Updated the drivers already, still does it, and it seems that it happens after a set ammount of time... No matter what I do.
